The Hut

Built in 1951, The Hut is an integral part of camp. After WWII, the government was selling the surplus of Quonset huts, so we bought two for $12.50 each. They were dismantled, brought to camp, and rebuilt. Through the years, there has been some refurbishing of the hut. In 1988, the Bake Room (where the chowder and clam cakes are made) was given a new floor and walls; the outside and inside walls have been replaced through the years, most of it in 1992, a new floor in 1996, and in 2005, a complete fire alarm system was installed.

The Hut is used for many purposes; it is used for storage in the winter, and when camp is in use, it is needed for sports, crafts, games, and many other activities.  The bottom of the Hut is used as the filter room for the pool, the day camp room, the bake room, and storage for booths for the bake.

In January 2026, we launched a Capital Campaign to help raise funds for repairing the Hut. In June 2026, the first phase The Hut Project was completed; we were able to repair the left third of the Hut, which included the pool filter room, the oar room, and we updated all of the electrical and fire safety systems.
